While not a "kid's restaurant," Barnaby's on Binz does a great job at welcoming them. There is a kid's menu (with sliders, grilled cheese, etc.) , and many of the regular menu items are also attractive to kids. (My daughter loves the house salad with honey mustard dressing and either salmon or chicken on it.) There grilled chicken is usually very good, and the salads are among the favorites of many locals. The bacon on the house salad is oh-so-good. I also love the spinach dip, the chips and queso, the Chicago-style hot dog, and even the ribs if I am in the mood for them. They also have a variety of burgers. Oh, and don't forget the strawberry lemonade OR the straw-mosa (for the parents)!
UPDATED April 23, 2024 to add that on weekends from 8 to 11 am, you can get brunch. I LOVE the bacon waffle here! If you have ever been to Richard Walker's Pancake House in California, the one here is similar and so good! They also have smoked salmon and classic egg-based breakfast plates and pancakes, too. This is often our stop when we have visitors in town because there are a lot of options, although, admittedly not as many for vegans.
In addition to the variety of food options, it is appealing to local kids because of the:
Coloring sheet kid's menu featuring Barnaby the dog traveling the world,
Colorful wooden "robots" and "dogs"that kids can borrow to play with at their table,
Toys on the outdoor patio (just watch the kiddos closely as the street is VERY busy),
Some of the waitstaff even carry stickers for children who are in a particularly well-mannered mood (though this is dependent on the staff member).
This Barnaby's location will always hold a special place in my heart because they basically kept me well-nourished with my takeout orders when I was pregnant. One of the managers has basically seen my child grow up. But, don't just take my word for it. It is a popular place in town for good reason.
NOTE: The restaurant provides a small crayon pack, but we even use these menus at home, hence the baggie full of random art supplies.
